Top 10 Movies that All Kids Should Watch
70
There are new movies constantly being made but there are some movies that will stand the test of time. Here is my list of the top 10 movies that all kids should watch (some of which are not recommended for young children).
10. Toy Story Series
These movies follow Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of a group of toys that pretend they are lifeless when children are present. They are completely devoted to their child Andy and each movie centers around getting home to him. Each movie is wonderfully creative and children and adults of all ages can enjoy.
9. Meet the Robinsons
This movie makes me cry each time I watch it. Here we see the story of a lonely orphan, Lewis, who has devoted his life to inventing. One day, after a particularly bad showing at a science fair, Lewis meets a strange boy claiming to be from the future. It is up to Lewis to fix the future and in return he might just find what he has always been looking for. This movie is amazingly touching and teaches you to never give up.
8. Beauty and the Beast
After a witch teaches a selfish prince a lesson, he is transformed into a hideous beast. He has until the last petal falls from his magic rose to find someone to fall in love with him. When a lost inventor penetrates his castle, his life will forever change for that inventor's daughter comes looking for him and convinces the beast to let her stay. With the help of his staff (whom were transformed into furniture and decorations in this spell) he woos the beautiful girl. This enchanting tale is a must see!
7. E.T.
This movie centers around a lonely boy named Elliott who befriends a friendly alien who is stranded on earth and their journey to get E.T home. This is a beautiful story that will forever be one of my favorite movies.
6. Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands is an unfinished artificial man (hence the scissors for hands) who is found by an Avon saleswoman and is brought to live with her and her family. This movie teaches you to be accept people who are different and that true beauty is on the inside.
5. Mary Poppins
This is an exciting tale about a magical nanny that brings life back to the children of the Banks family. This movie is filled with magic and love that makes it a classic that every child should see.
4. Alice in Wonderland
This fantastical tale follows Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole and the unusual creatures she encounters as she tries to find the white rabbit and her way back home. From start to finish you are in a world of wonder that you never want to leave.
3. Goonies
Still one of my all time favorite movies, The Goonies follows a group of teenagers as they go in search of One-Eyed Wily's treasure. This is one adventure you don't want to miss!
2. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
This story follows poor Charlie Bucket whose luck turns around when he wins the chance of a lifetime; a trip into Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. The craziness of Wonka keep the children and the viewers on their toes from start to finish!
1. The Wizard of Oz
I remember staying up late as a little girl to watch this amazing movie. There will never be a movie that will top this story of a girl who is whisked away to the Land of Oz where she encounters 3 amazing friends, a group of munchkins, and a wicked old witch. Follow Dorothy on her quest to find her way home.
There are so many amazing movies that I am sure there are a ton I missed! Feel free to add your favorites!

I actually have a problem with a few of these movies for kids.
1. Toy Story 3 - My 5 year old was actually very traumatized by the dumpster scene. She cried for the rest of the movie, and had nightmares for the next five days. I would caution parents about younger children watching this movie.
2. E.T. - I hope that your kids are like mine and fall asleep halfway though this movie. Because if they are under 6 and make it to when the government moves in takes over and prepares to dissect your new friend, it may be cause for alarm.
3. Edward Scissorhands - Too many sexual innuendos. I think I'll steer my kids away from this one.
Other than that I happily endorse all the movies. Sorry about the rant.
Nice list, and still voted up.
